Ι want to register a .ελ domain name. What should I know about it?

According to the announcement of the Hellenic Telecommunications & Post Commission, the registration of .ελ domain names will begin on the 10th of July 2018 and will consist of two phases.

1st phase: July 10th - October 10th
For the first three months, the .gr domain owners will have priority in order to register the same or same spelled .ελ domain.

The following rules apply:
a) each .ελ domain is automatically registered to the same owner information as the corresponding or same-spelled .gr domain. .ελ domains are essentially kept for registration only by the owner of the same or same spelled .gr domain name for those 3 months.
b) a .ελ domain can be registered only at the registrar where the same or same spelled .gr domain is also registered.

Thus,
- if you have registered a .gr domain name at Papaki:
From the July 10th until October 10th, log in to your Papaki Control Panel and go to the admin panel of your .gr domain. There you will have the option to register the corresponding .ελ domain name. See the steps in detail.
- if you wish to register a .ελ domain name and its corresponding .gr is available, you can register the .ελ domain with the owner information of you choice from the start. From the July 10th search for it at Papaki and follow the registration steps.

Special cases:
1. Same-spelled .gr domains with different owners
None of the two owners has the right to register the .el domain name in the first three months.

2. Third level .gr domain (.com.gr, .net.gr, etc) and the same .gr is registered to a different owner
Priority is given to the owner of the .gr domain name and only he/she can register the same or same spelled .ελ domain name in the first 3 months. For example, if you own "papaki.com.gr” and somebody else owns "papaki.gr”, then "papaki.ελ” (or "ραράκι.ελ”) can only be registered by the owner of "papaki.gr”.

3. Third level .gr domain (.com.gr, .net.gr, etc) and the same .gr is available for registration
The same or same spelled domain name can be registered by anyone who has the corresponding third level .gr domain name.

2nd phase: October 11th and afterwards
No restrictions apply. Anyone can register an available .ελ domain name.
