How do I connect my domain to Google Workspace?

If you want to use Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) with your domain, you will need to add or modify certain DNS records according to the instructions provided by Google for your account. These records are used to verify domain ownership and route your email traffic through Google's infrastructure.

Before you begin

From the Google Workspace administration panel, you will receive the exact DNS records required for your domain. Depending on the service you want to enable, Google may ask you to add:

  • TXT records for domain verification.
  • MX records for email service.
  • CNAME records for additional services.
  • SPF, DKIM, or DMARC records to improve email security and deliverability.

Setting up Google Workspace Email

To receive email through Google Workspace, you will need to add the MX records displayed in the Google Admin Console.

Before adding the new records:

  • Make sure you are using the latest instructions provided by Google.
  • Remove any outdated MX records associated with another email provider if they are no longer needed.
  • Save your changes and allow time for DNS propagation to complete.

If you are already using Google Workspace and your email service is working properly, there is no need to modify the existing MX records unless specifically instructed by Google.

Setting up Google Sites with your domain

If you want to publish a Google Site using your own domain:

  1. Sign in to Google Sites.
  2. Open the site you want to publish.
  3. Click Publish.
  4. Under Custom Domain, enter the domain or subdomain you want to use.
  5. Google will display the DNS records required to verify and connect your domain.
  6. Add these records to your domain's active DNS zone through Papaki or the myTophost Panel.
  7. Complete the verification process within Google's interface.

Important Information

  • DNS changes are not always applied immediately and may take some time to propagate worldwide.
  • If Google's instructions specify @ as the record name, you do not need to enter it when managing DNS records in Papaki.
  • Incorrect DNS modifications may affect the functionality of your website or email service.
  • Before making significant DNS changes, it is recommended that you keep a backup of your current DNS records.

Follow the appropriate procedure depending on the Control Panel where your domain is hosted.
